CORPUS CHRISTI - Some people living on the south side are on edge after a recent spike in snake sightings.
Their concern stretches beyond their own homes; many are worried about kids at nearby schools.
Debbie Crites brother owns a racetrack near Roddfield and Yorktown. He's killed half a dozen snakes in the past month - five rattlesnakes and one coral snake.
People who live in the area are worried about the snakes surfacing on school grounds. An elementary school sits right in the middle of several new developments. Neighbors think its the construction that's causing the snakes to show up in people's yards.
Animal control says they've responded to several snake bite calls, but none of them have been fatal. They urge parents to teach their kids to never pick up a snake, even if they think it's non-venomous.
