KINGSVILLE - We're following some breaking news out of NAS Kingville this morning where six people have died following a truck crash.

Wednesday night around 11:15, local deputies tried to pull over a vehicle that was carrying 15 illegal immigrants inside.

In an attempt to out run authorities the car drove through the first checkpoint at the base. The person in charge at the gate notified the people at main gate, about a half mile away, to put up the barrier.

The vehicle did not stop and drove head on into the barrier killing six people inside.

"That's exactly what they are there for, to prevent access to the gate illegally. Unfortunately, the vehicle did not slow down and just ran in to it," say NAS Kingsville Public Affairs Officer Jon Gagne.

Halo flight air lifted a few others to area hospitals.

The main gate is currently closed NAS Kingsville is asking that you use the Caesar Street gate until further notice.
