DALLAS (AP) - The sister of a Dallas mother who beat her toddler and glued the child's hands to a wall is asking a judge for leniency - even as she acknowledged her own fury over the attack.
Margaret Escalona took the stand Wednesday at a sentencing hearing for Elizabeth Escalona.
Prosecutors are seeing a 45-year sentence for Elizabeth Escalona's attack on then-2-year-old Jocelyn Cedillo. Escalona pleaded guilty in July to felony injury to a child.
Police say Escalona was angry because of problems with potty training.
Margaret Escalona says that after the attack, she wanted to beat up her sister. She described seeing Jocelyn struggling for her life. But she says her sister "needs help" and not a long sentence.
Jocelyn suffered bleeding in her brain, a broken rib and severe bruising.
