SINTON - The City of Sinton has been left without a City Manager. City Secretary Cathy Duhart says the bizarre resignation occurred Friday afternoon.
The City Secretary says right before lunch on Friday, City Manager James Minor walked into her office and told her to put his resignation on the Council agenda. She asked if he was going to write a letter of resignation, he said "no." She says when she asked why he was leaving, he told her "I'm going home."
Duhart says she thought it was strange, but she left for lunch and when she returned Minor was gone. His city cell phone, keys, and credit card were left on his desk.
Before Minor packed up his RV and left town, one woman says he had some harsh words before leaving. The woman didn't want to tell us her name and she didn't want her face shown out of fear of retaliation.
She says, "he was very ugly and vicious. Making remarks about people here. It was just nasty. These people deserve what they get. That's exactly what he said. These people deserve what they get."
She wasn't surprised by his comments, because she says he seemed unhappy for a while.
I asked her how long Minor had been saying he wanted to leave. She said, "Um probably 2 months after he moved here. He started with, you know, he was bored nothing to do."
As of now City Secretary Cathy Duhart has taken over Minor's responsibilities as City Manager. The City Council will meet at 6pm tonight to discuss his resignation and what their next steps need to be.
