CORPUS CHRISTI - The health department says its supply of children's flu shots is now gone. This year's flu has health department waiting rooms across the state filled with people wanting last minute flu shots.

Today officials also announced three women between 65-85 years old died due to flu-related illnesses within the past 2 weeks.

The Corpus Christi- Nueces County Health District says they are feeling the effects of the vaccine shortage, having no child doses of the vaccines available. So they have reached out for help locally.

"We have reached out to providers may not be using their flu vaccine that's state provided so that we can get some in here to try and give out to some of the people that are still calling in," says Lala Yerjer, Immunization Program Manager.

And fortunately for parents and kids in the area a few doses will be available Wednesday, but those shots are funded by the state-meaning they are for children who don't have insurance. So for sick kiddos like Trinity Avalos, who has private insurance, she will have to find a doctor who has vaccines in stock.

"She was really hot and had chills and so I had to bring her in today,"says Monica Avalos, Trinity's mother.

Trinity says she hesitated getting a flu shot this year since last time she got sick despite having the shot. But with the soaring number of flu cases, it has her mother taking all precautions.

"It's just scary and that's why I am here because hopefully she doesn't have it," said Monica Avalos.

Friday the City-County Health Department anticipates receiving 100 more flu vaccines for adults 18 to 64.

"We are doing every thing that we can as the health district to try to get vaccines when it's available," says Yerjer.

She stresses the importance of getting flu shots early to avoid possibly being one without it.
