CORPUS CHRISTI - If you plan on heading down Shoreline Boulevard you'll want to find an alternate route as a contractor begins the work to realign the road. The work gets underway tomorrow, but warning signs and barricades are going up today.
Voters approved the project to change the look of Shoreline Boulevard in 2008. When the project is complete, the roadway will no longer be along the seawall.
There will only be two lanes of traffic heading south alongside two lanes running north (towards the American Bank Center).
That mean's no more large grassy area in between the opposing lanes that exist right now.
However, the northbound lanes will be separated by a small median with parking alongside the side of the road.
The work will shut down some southbound lanes from Schatzell Street to Furman Avenue. All southbound traffic will be detoured onto Water Street while work continues for the next year.
Tonight on KRIS 6 News, Rachel Cole talks with business owners excited to see the changes coming to downtown.
