CORPUS CHRISTI - With Black Friday over, local businesses got ready for Small Business Saturday. Today, shoppers hit the streets again in search of Christmas gifts but this time, many of them focused on checking out locally owned businesses.
We went to a store that sells pieces of art created by both national and local artists. Store managers say they look forward to this Saturday every year and already they've seen dozens of people coming through their doors to support local businesses.
"We're really pleased, small businesses are important," said Chris Barr. "They bring to the community a sense of groundedness. So, it's a good mix."
While locals supported local businesses, so did President Obama. He took his daughters to a Virginia bookstore as part of Small Business Saturday.
He read from a shopping list on his Blackberry and eventually bought 15 children's books as family Christmas presents. His daughters also spent time browsing through the store.
A wedding reception was going on across the street and as a surprise to the newlyweds, the secret service brought the couple in to meet the President.
