CORPUS CHRISTI - 6 News learned today the automotive business owner accused of raping and kidnapping a 23-year-old woman has been working on county vehicles for years.
Rudy Rubio, a convicted and registered sex offender, has been doing automotive repairs on county vehicles since at least 2007. His most recent work was done two months ago.
Rubio is listed with local authorities as a low risk sex offender convicted in 2005 for indecency with a 10 year old girl by sexual contact.
Now, county commissioners now looking into background checks for vendors.
"I think its probably going to be a topic that would probably come up at one of our commissioner meetings and we will be discussing that," says Commissioner Oscar Ortiz.
Rubio remains behind bars on $150,000 bond.
An affidavit filed by the Corpus Christi Police Department alleged Rubio impersonated a police office when he took a woman from her car last Friday night, then repeatedly raped her in his auto shop. The affidavit includes statements from the victim who identified Rubio out of a photo lineup.
