CORPUS CHRISTI - A helicopter is now buzzing above brush along Highway 72 in Live Oak County searching for an inmate who escaped from a federal prison.
An alert was sent out to all law enforcement this morning on the escape of 28-year-old Jose Guadalupe Aguilar from the the Federal Corrections Institute west of Three Rivers. The Federal Bureau of Prisons website shows a Jose Aguilar scheduled to be released in October of this year.
Officials confirm Aguilar walked away from the minimum security portion of the facility. He was serving a 9 month sentence for violating the conditions of his parole related to a firearms violation.
The search is taking place just south of the Choke Canyon Reservoir just west of town. Local prison officials, U.S. Marshals, DPS troopers and deputies are using a helicopter, search dogs, and officers on horseback.
Aguilar was last seen wearing a white shirt and grey shorts. He's 5'8", weighs 155 pounds. He's from Brownsville.
The Federal Corrections Institute houses minimum and medium security federal inmates.
