CORPUS CHRISTI - Police continue searching for the driver of a silver 2012 Ford Focus who hit a bicyclist on Ocean Drive near Ropes Park early Saturday morning. Attorney Richard Leshin is still in the hospital being treated for a a broken ankle and two broken vertebrae.

Leshin told us today he was in the bike lane on Ocean Drive as he rode to meet up with some cycling buddies around 7 a.m. He only heard a car behind him before being knocked to the ground. Other bicyclists quickly came to his aid, but the driver took off.

"There is no question at all that I'm lucky to be alive. I'm lucky that it wasn't worse. I mean, just to think I could have been paralyzed or in worse shape than I am," Leshin said.

He also told us it is doubtful he'll ever get on a bicycle again, saying its just not worth it.

Leshin's bike is bright orange, something that's hard to miss if you're paying attention to the road. Investigators say the Ford Focus involved in the crash has damaged to the front passenger side.

If you have any information that could help investigators, call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS, or submit a tip online at www.888tips.com.

City Councilman Mark Scott, a friend of Leshin, was at the scene and was shocked by what happened.

"The guy is trying to ride a nice bike ride, by himself, way inside the white line," said Scott. "This shouldn't happen in any city in America, much less Corpus Christi.

Tonight there are two meetings to discuss the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians on Corpus Christi roads. The first starts at 2:30 p.m as an advisory committee meets at City Hall. At 7 p.m. the Corpus Christi Cycle Club will meet at Kiko's Restaurant on Everhart Road.
