CORPUS CHRISTI - Thursday night, CCISD holds its first public presentation of the new school boundaries planned for the 2010-2011 school year.
The first in a series of similar events was held Carroll High School, a campus expected to receive a few neighborhoods currently zoned to King High Schoo, and send a few to the new Moody High School zone.
Due in part of the weather, just three parents and their children came out to hear the presentation.
CCISD officials explained how the boundaries were changing for Carroll, and also pointed out that the district is working to create better "vertical learning communities", where students at the same elementary school or middle school would not be divided when moving up to the next campus.
Afterwards, parents asked if the new boundaries would mean moving up to 5A UIL classification, if a sixth high school was in the works, and whether students already enrolled in a particular high school would be allowed to stay there.
Students there said it was very important to them to remain at the high school campus they currently attend.
"I live just down the block from Carroll, 3-4 blocks," said Joe Ray, a freshman at Carroll, "and they're changing that to Moody district, and I play sports here at carroll, I play football, and that's basically the reason why I wanted to come to Carroll."
Ray said he was satisfied at the response he received.
CCISD Spokesperson Lorette Williams says the grandfathering of students at lower levels is still up in the air, but added the plan as of this week was to allow high school students to stay where they're at.
"Right now what we're looking at, is that current students who are attending the high schools will be able to graduate from that particular high school," she said.
