CORPUS CHRISTI - Police are warning residents about a scam involving Moneypak prepaid cards. Investigators say victims may receive a phone call or an e-mail claiming they've won a foreign lottery.

The victims are then asked to purchase a Moneypak card and put funds in the account. The scammers will then ask you to give them the number underneath the silver scratch-off area, that will allow them access to the account, and they'll leave you with nothing.

The makers of the Moneypak card are aware of the scam and have even put a big yellow fraud alert message on the cards.
