SOUTH TEXAS -- Criminals have been targeting people on Craigslist for years, but now they're using a new scam by focusing on people who want to work for companies in Eagle Ford Shale areas.
Alan Bligh with the Better Business Bureau said, "The bad guys, they're sitting in Nigeria and they're looking at the broadcast and the websites, newspaper, etc. and ahhh...Eagle Ford with all this money in Central and South Texas. They pay attention to these things and they're going to come after you."
Here's how it works, for $50 or so the Craiglist scammers say they can help you get a job with Eagle Ford Shale and ask you to either wire the money or give a credit card number.
You may think it's a good deal, after all you'll be making a lot more than that when you get the job...but think again.
Bligh said, "The main rule is don't pay to get a job, period." He says the scammer will pocket the money. So, you'll be out $50 and no job to show for it.
He says if you want help working with companies in the Eagle Ford Shale talk to a certified professional.
Bligh also suggests to work with someone local. Remember, never give someone on Craigslist your personal information and certainly don't pay for a service until you do your homework on who's taking your money.
