Sara Donchey joined the KRIS 6 News team in August 2013. She comes to the Coastal Bend from San Francisco, California, though she grew up in Los Angeles County.
She produces and reports the "Happening Now" segment for Kris 6 News at Sunrise and reports for 6 News at 5, 6 and 10 pm.
Sara studied Online and Print Journalism at San Francisco State University. During her time at SF State, Sara worked as both a reporter and the online managing editor for the student-produced news publication, Golden Gate Xpress.
Under her leadership, the Xpress website was also honored by the College Media Association for General Website Excellence, in addition to winning an Online Pacemaker Award from the Associated College Press.
Sara never considered a career in broadcasting until a chance encounter with a TV reporter in 2012. He talked Sara into applying at KPIX, the CBS owned-and-operated station in San Francisco. Shortly after, she was hired as a production assistant and writer. It was there that Sara learned everything she possibly could about broadcast news, and decided she would pursue a career as a reporter.
Sara is an award-winning editorial cartoonist and has a passion for drawing and painting. She's also an avid Jeopardy watcher, and loves to "compete" with friends.
Additionally, Sara is a proud member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. (Her mother was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and her father is of Russian and Polish descent).
