TAFT -- Santa Claus came into town a little early to give gifts to kids in the community. Security was high for Santa as he walked door to door on Christmas Eve in Taft. Police officers helped as Santa has he gave gifts to kids in the area, something Chief John Landreth says helps children see officers a little differently.
"This puts us in a different light a better light so were trying to get the community behind us, we had good community support," Chief Landreth said.
People in Taft collected over 500 presents to distribute to kids in the community, Santa went around all day and made kids happy as they tore through the ribbons and bows. Children of all ages flocked to jolly old St. Nick as he pulled knick knacks from his over sized stocking and passed out presents to the good boys and girls.
Santa says he appreciates the help he gets from from officers to make sure every child has a Merry Christmas.
"It's helping all the children that probably wouldn't have a gift," he said.
According to St. Nick, Taft is always on his list of towns where he schedules a special stop.
"One of my reindeers got hurt and it doctored here in Taft so we make a special effort to come here to this community," Santa said.
