CORPUS CHRISTI - Tis the season for joy and giving. For more than 100 years, The Salvation Army has helped those in need, and Tuesday they dished up a Christmas feast.

Though the line was shorter than most years outside The Salvation Army in Corpus Christi, the spirit of Christmas still filled the air. Those in need lined up this morning to receive a feast that chef doug and his crew began cooking at 6:30. He prepares meals weekly for The Salvation Army, but this is his favorite to cook.

" Just the christmas spirit, you know the kids next door in the shelter making sure everyone gets a good meal at least," said Doug Kubecka, Salvation Army chef.

This is his second year to prepare the christmas meal. This year the menu included all Christmas staples like turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, and of course pie.

All the volunteers that give their time on christmas say just look around the room, this is the reason for the season.
"It's just real rewarding especially when you see the little sweet faces of the kids I think that's my favorite," said volunteer Carol McKeever.

She and her husband have volunteered on Christmas day for the last five years since their family lives up north. They continue to return because of the happiness they see on people's faces.
"It was nice here to have a joyous meal for all of us who need it and it never gets any better than this," said David Hernandez who enjoyed the meal Christmas Day.

"You know they (the children) just look up at you with their sweet faces and they are so appreciative. You know they just appreciate everything you do and just the attention you give them," said McKeever.

While there may have been a lower turn out, there was no shortage of Christmas cheer.
