CORPUS CHRISTI - As the first big cold snap of the holiday season works it's way into the Coastal Bend,
volunteers at the Salvation Army are preparing to deal with more transients in need of a warm place to stay.

"We put out floor mats as needed, and we bring in as many as we can, to bring them out of the bad weather," said Valentin Garcia, a Case Manager for the Salvation Army.

But even filling the building to it's maximum capacity, doesn't guarantee everyone comes inside where it is warm.

"There's a lot of individuals, of course, for their own reasons, will not come into the shelter, so, of course, they are needing blankets, they are need jackets," Garcia said.

Those individuals are then left to face the elements, many of them, not properly dressed. So the Salvation Army is asking the community to come forward and lend a helping hand, providing some minor comfort to those who need it most.

"Any type of blanket, like I said, if it were to keep you warm at home, and it's something extra that you have, we will take it."

Right now, the Salvation Army only has this one box of blankets and a handful of jackets and sweaters.
And as the weather gets colder, these supplies will disappear fast.

"All we ask, again, is just to share a little bit of your holidays. You know, we all spend time with our families, some of these individuals don't have a family. We open our doors to them. And we would like to have a little bit to give back to them also," said Garcia.

A simple gesture that could help a family in need, get through the holidays.

If you want to donate any blankets or warm-weather clothing, you can take them to the salvation army on Josephine Street, anytime during regular business hours. Stay warm out there.
