CORPUS CHRISTI - A week after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut officers here in the Coastal Bend are still dealing with rumors of threats or gun scares at schools.
Rumors about a shooting happening at Orange Grove High School spread through the campus this morning. Staff called the police department right away and an investigation got underway. The rumors turned out to be a false alarm. Officers spoke with the student allegedly behind the threat, but decided he was not a threat.
Over in Ingleside, 400 students didn't show up for class today at the high school. The principal attributes the absences to kids heading out of town early before Christmas break and a threatening note found on a bathroom wall Tuesday that warned of a shooting today at 10am. There was no shooting. Classes were scheduled to get out before noon today anyway.
This morning police showed up at Flour Bluff High School after hearing that a student may have taken a gun to school. However, it turned out to be a false alarm. According to Lynn Kaylor with Flour Bluff ISD it was actually an ROTC student carrying a drill rifle, which is not capable of firing. Kaylor told us the student should not have had the rifle out and the issue has been addressed with the student.
