CORPUS CHRISTI - The intersection at Ocean Drive and Louisiana could be getting a new look in the coming months.
The city is considering putting in a round-a-bout in place of the traffic lights currently at that intersection.
Most of you at home have probably wanted the ability to turn left onto Louisiana when your headed downtown on Ocean Drive.
If the round-a-bout gets put in, you'll have that ability.
It would work like this, traffic would move right in the circle.
Headed downtown, drivers could go straight through on Ocean, or go around the circle and go left onto Louisiana.
Coming the other direction, drivers could turn right onto Louisiana or continue straight on Ocean.
Drivers coming both directions will have the ability to make a u-turn.
City Public Works Director Dan Biles says a round-a-bout would fix the left turn problem, save money on traffic light maintenance, and just be a safer fit for that intersection.
"The accidents in general would be reduced by about 40 percent over other intersections like that. And so, just from a safety perspective, they're significantly better," Biles says.
If approved, the round-a-bout would be added on to a Bond 2012 project for road work between Louisiana and Buford.
The city wants to make sure it would be cost effective and fit into the budget for that bond project.
