ROBSTOWN - Parents are demanding answers to what they call a school fiasco. Tonight, they're getting them from the Superintendent of School for Robstown ISD.
As we reported on Tuesday, students never made it to class on opening day. Instead, they spent the whole day in the auditorium and the cafeteria was closed.
Dr. Maria Viduarri says officials came up with the auditorium plan weeks ago. Given all the recent changes to the high school due to construction, the principal wanted to personally give tours to each grade to make sure everyone felt safe on campus.
As for the cafeteria, that was due to a fire safety issue, but it reopened Tuesday.
Dr. Maria Vidaurri does admit that their communication with staff and parents could have been a lot better.
"I think if you want to ask me a lesson learned, I would say that we need to get more communication out to our parents. And I thank you all for being here and helping us do that. We're going to be writing a letter out from the principal. I'll be sending a letter out as well, to let them know exactly what's transpiring at the high school."
Dr. Vidaurri says while the construction work on campus is worthwhile it will present some challenges over the next 12-18 months.
