Robstown Grocer Arrested in Federal Anti-Gang Raid

ROBSTOWN - The FBI along with Robstown police raided a grocery store this morning and later arrested the owner at his home. Ruben Esparza, 34, is described by federal officials as a member of the Texas Mexican Mafia.

The FBI says he's part of an extensive and ongoing investigation. Robstown police say he is owns the small grocery on Messer Street.

Esparza is one of 25 suspected gang members picked up in operations from Houston to South Texas. The suspects face a range of charges, including drug trafficking, firearms violations, and distributing explosive materials.

He's expected to make an appearance in federal court in Corpus Christi tomorrow before being transferred to Houston.
