Robinson Claims National Championship In High Jump At Division II Nationals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Jeron Robinson claimed the NCAA Division II National Championship in the high jump Friday evening highlight a stellar day by the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's track and field team at the national meet in Birmingham, Ala.
Robinson won the national title with a final height of 2.24m (7'4-1/4") in the high jump. He secured the title when he cleared 2.22m (7'3-1/4") as Lake Erie's Edward Dudley missed all three attempts. Robinson, who the high jump at the Lone Star Conference Championship, had a previous best of 2.14m (7'0-1/4") in January. He attempted to clear 2.26m (7'5") three times unsuccessfully.
Other Javelinas had good days as well. Anthony Washington, won his heat in the prelims of the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.79 seconds a hundredth of a second better than his fastest time. He just missed qualifying for the finals in the 200-meter dash by three hundredths of second when he was tenth in the prelims at 21.56.
Michal Idziak also advanced to the finals in the 800-meter run. He won his preliminary heat with a mark of 1:52.30. Idziak's best time in the event came in the finals of the 800 at the LSC Championship at 1:51.35.
On Saturday, Washington and Idziak will compete in the finals. Seeing their first action of the meet will be Samantha Alvarez in the high jump and Jordan Yamoah in the pole vault. Yamoah leads the nation in the event with a height of 5.25 meters.
