Robber Sets Fire in Walmart to Create Diversion

CORPUS CHRISTI - Police say an armed robber set fire to some toilet paper in the Walmart on Greenwood Saturday in order to rob the store. The robbery happened while the evacuation was getting underway.

According to police, he made a getaway by joining the crowds of customers leaving the store as the fire department arrived. He then left the parking lot in a blue Ford Explorer.

Police have only released a general description of the man. He's Hispanic, 5'9" tall, 140 pounds, with a shaved head.

About an hour before that robbery, a man with a similar description threatened a Dollar General clerk with a knife. The clerk at the 3130 Morgan Avenue location suffered a cut to her finger.

The robber left in a black Ford Explorer.
