CORPUS CHRISTI - Twenty four bike riders arrived in Corpus Christi today after a 500-mile trek from Wichita Falls, Texas. The "Warriors On Wheels" is a cycling club that paired up with an organization called "Operation Comfort." The non-profit helps injured vets get back to a normal lifestyle through activities such as biking.
Gabriel Monreal tells us, "I lost my leg in Afghanistan in 2010 and just seeing those other guys, those amputees, being able to do stuff lightly - playing football, playing baseball, you know, riding bicycles, doing kayaking - all that stuff inspired me and I kept thinking 'everything is going to be okay.'"
Another rider said in all 500 miles the most emotional moment was while passing through Beeville. "The whole city shut down for us," said Joel Sauceda. "The show of support for these veterans was incredible. I don't think there was a dry eye on the bikes going through that town," he added.
It was the second annual "Ride Texas" bike ride. The organization hopes to raise $100,000 for wounded service members. For more information on Operation Comfort click here.
