Retired CCISD Teacher Heading to National Teachers' Hall of Fame

CORPUS CHRISTI - A retired Corpus Christi ISD teacher will be honored for her work in a very special way. Dr. Rebecca Palacios is being inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame.

Dr. Palacios was a teacher at Zavala Elementary. She retired in 2010 with 34 years of experience. Palacios now works as a senior curriculum advisor.

Back in 2004, she testified before a congressional committee that examined the impact of the No Child Left Behind Act. At the time, she said it was essential for teachers to know how to teach .

"If you know all the information about the subject but not how to teach students, then you've lost the message to relate to students as they learn."

Dr. Palacios will be inducted in June, becoming only the fourth teacher from Texas to receive the honor. CCISD plans to honor her during next month's Teacher of the Year banquet at the American Bank Center.
