Retired Bishop Carmody Accepts Position with Diocese of Tyler

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Most Reverend Edmond Carmody, D.D, Bishop Emeritus and retired 7th Bishop of Corpus Christi has accepted an invitation from the Catholic Diocese of Tyler, Texas to take a position in the Chancery office of that Diocese. The Request came from his longtime friend Bishop Joseph Strickland who was just ordained and installed as the Bishop of Tyler.

The late Pope John Paul II named Bishop Carmody Bishop of Corpus Christi in early 2000. He was installed as the seventh Bishop of the Diocese of Corpus Christi on March 17, 2000.

He previously served as Bishop of the Tyler Diocese from May 1992 to March 2000. He was ordained to the Episcopacy and named Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio in 1988 and served in that position until 1992.
