CORPUS CHRISTI - The big turkey holiday is a chance for all who are celebrating to indulge in some good food. The executive chef at Takeaway Gourmet, a local takeout restaurant on Williams Drive, says that not all good-tasting foods are bad for you, however. Inspired by eating healthy, the restaurant opened on the basis that it would supply healthier foods to combat other less-healthy options on the market. Chef Don Kubecka says even something as simple as substituting apple sauce in for oil can cut calories from a meal without sacrificing the taste of the food.
While most plan to take a dietary "cheat day" on Thanksgiving, it's immediately following big holidays when Takeaway Gourmet sees an increase in business. The restaurant offers dietitian-approved meals for 500 calories or less. They also deliver the meals while offering a drive-through service.
