CORPUS CHRISTI - If you drive on McArdle Road, here's a heads up.The city has complete renovation plans in store for the road, including a turning lane, bike lane, and sidewalks.
Local business owner Porfiro Gomez, said he has one major concern."The question is, how long is it gonna take?" asked Gomez.
It's going to take at least two years, according to the city. They emphasize that the construction is not only for road safety, but also for the safety of the children. Some kids walk to school every morning, with no consistent sidewalks.
"My concern is for the safety of the children, really," said resident Richard Marroquin. "If there's gonna be safety involved, that's great."
People who use the bus system every day would also benefit from a sidewalk, like college student Gracie Peck. "Especially for people in the bus like there's no walking way," said Peck. "I have to walk through someone's yard, just to get to the bus stop." She agrees that it would be nice for the kids to have a safe place to walk to school in the mornings. "You totally see the kids like walking every day, on little grass trails."
But, good for the community or not, Gomez says two years of construction traffic isn't something his business can afford. The construction is set to begin within the next two weeks.
