CORPUS CHRISTI - For the past five years the Wright family has played a game of musical chairs when the city's sewer line in their backyard backs up at their home along Cambridge Street.

"I mean we can't stay here, if we don't have a restroom to use. You can work your way around not having a kitchen sink, but not having a toilet to use it a whole other story, said" homeowner Michael Wright.

So without the use of water in their home, the Wright family moves out and stays with family or friends until they have flushing toilets again.

"We've tried plunging it and it doesn't work. It will drain really really slowly but that's about it until the city runs their lines through it," said Wright.

He says the city has been out about 100 times over the last five years, but only making temporary fixes. And usually with in a week wright has to call the city out again.

"I've had them out three times in a weekend, so it's not always just a quick fix. some times they fix it and it clogs right back up," said Wright.

Brian Butscher with the Wastewater Department says this is an unusual situation.

"The very vast majority of our calls are one time complaints, we go out we assess the situation we remedy the problem and we don't ever have to go back," said Butscher.

The city says it will soon fix the Wright's sewage problem permanently by replacing the line in that area, it's just waiting to award the bid to the contractor.

The city estimates this summer is when they will finally be able to break ground on this project and once they do it should only take a week or two for residents like the wrights to finally feel relief.

While the old clay sewage pipes are to blame for his problem, Wright believes this problem should not have taken the city five years and 100 plus phone calls to get a permanent fix.
