Repeat Offender Given 65 Years for Burglary

CORPUS CHRISTI - A Nueces County jury threw the book at a career criminal nconvicted of his third felony. Elias Garcia, 50, will spend up to 65 years in prison for stealing several firearms from a home on Kostoryz last year.

Normally, a crime of this type would lead to a sentence range of two to twenty years, but Garcia faced a longer sentence due to his prior record.

"I hope this helps to cause people to think about breaking into homes and stealing firearms, putting them on our streets to cause more problems," says prosecutor Doug Mann.

Garcia has 13 other convictions dating back to the early 1980's, including DWI, drug possession and assault.
