CORPUS CHRISTI - A Refugio city council member wants the mayor and other council members to give up their pay so the money can be used to pay city employees.

Councilwoman Karen Watts says the money, which tallies up to about 24-thousand dollars, would be split between 22 city employees.

Watts is also proposing that salaries for department heads be frozen for at least 2 years.

If council members vote to give up their salaries, no changes will go into effect until after the local election.
