CORPUS CHRISTI - A local Red Cross volunteer is packing up and preparing to head out to Colorado to assist with flooding relief.
Margaret Paton will help take care of the 750 or so disaster volunteers already in the area.
Paton says last night alone, more than 1,000 residents were staying at one of 24 Red Cross shelters in the area hit hard by flash flooding.
To provide an idea of the scope of the disaster, Paton reminded us off the bad flooding in the Las Colonias subdivision of Corpus Christi three years ago. Residents there were able to get back on their feet in a matter of months. For flood victims in Colorado it could be years of recovery.
