CORPUS CHRISTI - The Ray girls basketball is team is headed back to the Class 4A Region Tournament for the first time since 2011, the Lady Texans punched their ticket on Tuesday night beating Laredo Cigarroa 41-33.
"It's a really big deal for us we haven't been there in a couple years and we are all trying to work as a team to get as far as we can," said Small Forward Jazmen Williams.
"This is my first year at Ray and we all want revenge from last year and we are gonna make it all the way," said Forward Audie Espinoza.
Ray will face San Antonio Brennan first in the Region Semifinals; the scouting report on Brennan is that they are big. They boast a roster with five different girls over six feet tall, Ray has just one. But what Roy De La Pena's team lacks in size they make up for with speed and smarts, and in the playoffs the smarter team often turns out to be the better team.
"With their height we definitely have an advantage with our speed so we are gonna run them and hopefully make them tired," said Guard Julia Benavides.
Tip off is slated for 6pm on Friday at Blossum Athletic Center in San Antonio. We will have highlights and updates all evening long.
