You have to be 18 years old to enlist in the military, buy cigarettes and vote...but now a Texas lawmaker wants to add using a tanning bed to that list.
Right now, Texans under the age of 18 but older than 16 and a half can use a tanning bed if their parents are OK with it.
But State Representative John Zerwas wants to raise the legal tanning age to 18.
He said the bill he's proposing could protect teens from future medical problems like skin cancer.
Zerwas said, "The evidence is so clear, and evident in terms of what the increased risk is for subsequent development of skin cancer."
The bill wouldn't apply to spray tanning.
