CORPUS CHRISTI - A small amount of rain led to more than a few accidents in the Corpus Christi area around 3 p.m. The first call came in about a large truck that flipped onto the driver's side along North Padre Island Drive and Highway 44. Emergency crews had to rescue the tow truck driver and his passenger. Police say both were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The driver will be cited for failure to control speed.
Another crash along I-37 at Violet Road was much more serious. The woman driving a maroon truck told officers she lost control while heading towards the interstate. The truck slid down the embankment and flipped into a ditch. Crews had to cut the roof off to free the woman. She suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The third crash involved a pickup truck that drove up an embankment at I-37 and North Padre Island Drive. The truck flipped over in the crash. The driver suffered minor injuries, yet refused to be taken to the hospital by ambulance.
