NUECES COUNTY -- Six people, including five illegal immigrants, were taken to area hospitals after a police chase that ended with the vehicle crashing in a field.

Authorities said the driver of a blue pickup truck fled after police tried to pull him over for making an unsafe turn. The chase was called off minutes later after the driver reached speeds of up to 105 MPH and drove through a construction site.

Minutes later, authorities said, the driver crashed in a field on FM 666 and County Road 18 near Driscoll.

The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to the hospital by Halo Flight after he complained of back and neck injuries. The others were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

The five illegal immigrants were all wearing neck braces while drinking from water bottles before being taken out of police units and moved to ambulances. Authorities said they did not appear to have serious injuries.

The driver faces charges of felony evading and transporting illegal immigrants. The illegal immigrants will be released to U.S. Border Patrol.
