Purse Thief Targets Womens' Cars in Gym Parking Lots

CORPUS CHRISTI - Investigators are looking for a man accused of breaking into womens' cars as they were working out Tuesday afternoon.

Both women called police within 15 minutes of each other to report the thefts outside different gyms on the southside of town.

The first woman said she left her purse on the floorboard of her car outside a the Corpus Christi Athletic Club on Airline Rd. When she came out her window was smashed and the purse was gone.

About 15 minutes later, another woman called from Gold's Gym on S. Staples. Same story here. She left her purse on the floorboard of her car and came back out to find the window smashed and the purse gone.

According to police, the woman's stolen credit cards had already been used to make purchases.

In both cases, the thief is described as a heavyset Hispanic male wearing shorts and a white t-shirt. He was seen driving a small, black 2-door car.
