CORPUS CHRISTI - A man trying to renovate an old building got quite a surprise today when he learned illegal immigrants, a wanted U.S. citizen, and possibly their families were living inside his building.
Neighbors called in the tip to Code Enforcement after they saw children going in and out.
Police and Border Patrol agents went to the building on Baldwin and Cortez.
They found that the water had been illegally hooked up and the sewage system was backed up.
The property owner, Alex Griss, says he was working with two legal residents to renovate the building and turn it into a car lot.
He says he didn't know them well and had he known, he never would have let this happen.
"They (authorities) are telling me I might have an immigration problem, but the thing is none of these guys were my employees really," Griss says.
Griss says all he can do is fix the damage and move on.
