PREMONT - Students and staff at Premont High School were in mourning today after hearing the news of 15-year old Jessica Hernandez's death.
The accident that led to her death was out on County Road 424 in Premont. State Troopers say that Jessica was driving on an ATV when she ran into this fence. Troopers say she died on the scene.
Staff made 250 cards in her memory to students can wear them.
"You're so close to these kids every day, you see them every day... interact with them. And you never know when something like this is gonna happen and they're gonna be taken away from you," said Premont H.S. Assistant Principal Eugene Everett.
Jessica was on the JV basketball team. Her Coach says her teammates are having an extremely difficult time dealing with her death.
"They're taking it hard. My first period, one of her teammates is in... and her eyes were swollen and they're real sad," said Premont H.S. Basketball Coach Sarah Flores.
Coach Flores says Jessica was such a joy to have on her court.
"She was an awesome student, and athlete. She loved... she loved playing. She would come out here and, sometimes she would forget her tennis shoes but she was out on the court with boots," said Flores.
She has left her mark on her school and in many people's hearts. Friends of Jessica's family say funeral arrangements have not been made yet.
