Powerlifters Feel The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat

CORPUS CHRISTI-Hardbodies of all types and sizes competed against each other Saturday to see who's the best.

Men, women and teens gathered at the Emerald Beach Hotel to take part in a powerlifting meet, sponsored by Rock's Discount Vitamins and Ironhorse Gym.

For most of the contestants, years of sweat and training goes into these meets, where individuals try to squat, lift or press hundreds of pounds, all in an effort to be the best.

A 16-year-old Alice boy, L.A. Gonzalez, wowed the crowd by setting a Texas state record in squats.
He finished with 413 pounds, but he himself only weighs 113 pounds, almost four times his body weight.
Officials are trying to verify if he also set the national record as well.
Gonzalez says he would like to go lift for the University of Texas and perhaps professionally afterwards.
