Powerball Fever: Est. Jackpot at $550 Million

CORPUS CHRISTI - With the estimated jackpot now at $550 million, Powerball fever has swept across the Coastal Bend. Hopeful locals have been flocking to local convenience stores to purchase a chance at millions of dollars. But even if you do beat the insurmountable odds and win the jackpot just how much money are we talking about?
Everyone has plenty of plans as to what they would do with the winnings. "I'd probably help some churches, and my family. You know, just live," said Joe Zapata.
But just how much is $500 million? If tomorrow, you woke up and had $500 million in cash, you would have in your hand, the total estimated annual revenue of Facebook.
That not enough for you? If you got the $500 million and had it paid out in one dollar bills, and then laid them end to end, you would be able to wrap them around the planet earth, not once, but twice.
Still not enough? Well, $500 million would not only equal the total amount of money it took to make the movie "avatar,"
You would also have the same net worth as Queen Elizabeth, Magic Johnson and David Letterman, separately,
Not to mention the weight of $500 million in one dollar bills would equal out to 225 tons, that's not one, but 2 Statue of Liberties, stacked on top of each other.
If that's not enough temptation to spend a few bucks at a financially stable future, then I don't know what is. Either way, store clerks are busy dealing with the hopeful gamblers -sorry, lottery ticket buyers. They tell me there's no other way to possibly win.
"Everybody wants to win big, you know? And like I say, you don't try, how are you going to win? You need to take a chance," said store clerk Priscilla Curiel.
Of course, most research shows that you are more likely to be struck by lightning that win the lottery. But no matter how you break it down, that's not going to stop people from trying. As they say - no risk, no reward.
