CORPUS CHRISTI - Portland police say the man who led them on a chase from Portland to Corpus Christi had at least two outstanding warrants.
According to Portland police, it all started when an officer noticed 23 year old David Garcia driving erratically and tried to pull him over. Instead of stopping, Garcia took off.
During the chase authorities say while on the Nueces Bay Causeway, Garcia tossed a shotgun out the window. The shotgun was recovered by a witness who turned it over to police.
The chase was called off by Portland PD and CCPD when Garcia flew through a school zone, however, moments later the car crashed into a fire hydrant near Moravian and Gollihar.
Police say both Garcia and the woman bailed out. Garcia was caught hiding under a house on Crane Street. The woman was caught walking in the opposite direction.
Police say Garcia said he took off because he was high on heroin. Garcia is charged with evading and could be facing weapons charges.
Charges against the woman are pending an investigation.
