Port Aransas Ferry Engines Failed Before Hitting Pier

PORT ARANSAS - The Station Street pier in Port Aransas is now off-limits due to damage from a loaded ferry that slammed into the structure. We're told the ferry was about to dock on the Port Aransas side of the crossing when one engine lost power.

The operator tried to compensate and make it across, but the second engine then lost power. Another ferry operator then attempted to use his vessel to keep the drifting ferry from hitting the pier.

There were 25 passengers in 12 cars on the vessel at the time of the crash. No one was injured.

The Coast Guard is handling the investigation.
