CORPUS CHRISTI - Halloween is right on the heels of Christmas in terms of how much money people spend on decor. This year, the National Revenue Federation estimates people will spend a total of $6.9 million on Halloween candy, decorations and costumes. At $75, the average consumer will spend about $5 less than last year.
Sales locally are still soaring, however, according to personnel at Spirit Halloween Superstores. Popular costumes this year include minions from the Universal Pictures movie Despicable Me; superhero costumes are popular on the shelves, as well, along with Miley Cyrus' costume from the 2013 Video Music Awards. Spirit Halloween Regional Manager Amanda Fox says they're expecting the Miley Cyrus costume to arrive in stores shortly but doesn't anticipate the popular outfit to last long.
