Police Sting Goes Wrong, Leads to Chase

CORPUS CHRISTI - Police set up a sting operation to catch an auto burglary suspect in the act, but things got out of hand when he took off from downtown.

Corpus Christi police were watching a restaurant on the t-heads waiting for a man to take the bait - a Yeti cooler left unsecured in the back of a pickup truck.

According to police, he grabbed the cooler and was able to drive his Chevy Suburban out of the t-head area before officers could move in.

He went tearing down small streets and the wrong way along Agnes. Police were ready to call off the chase until a couple of police cars were hit during the chase. One Tahoe has heavy front end damage from a crash into a car that wasn't involved.

The chase ended on Clifford Street when the suspect drove through a fence.

He faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading arrest, and for the theft of the cooler. According to police, they were keeping an eye on 21-year old Nicolas Kuntscher because he has a history of pawning stuff that isn't his.
