CORPUS CHRISTI - Police are still searching for a thief who traded his bike for a truck this morning.
After a quick getaway, officers tracked the truck down, but the man who stole it got away.
"Good word of advice is don't leave your keys in your vehicle," said Corpus Christi Police Officer Curtis Abbott.
That's something one man learned the hard way, when a quick pit stop for breakfast at El Mexicano Restaurant almost cost him his work truck.
Police say the thief took advantage when he noticed keys left behind in the truck.
"He approached the truck in a bicycle, loaded his bicycle in the back of the truck, got in the vehicle and left," Abbott said.
Workers at the restaurant say the man actually watched his truck being pulled out of the parking lot, but by the time he ran outside it was too late to stop him.
Luckily, it didn't take police long to track down the truck. "That company has the ability to GPS track their vehicles," Abbott said.
Police found the truck less than a mile away, with the thief and his bike still inside.
"She spotted the truck and the truck was parked off the side of the road and as she approached it, he jumped out of the drivers side of the truck and fled on foot," Abbott said.
Only he did leave something behind; a pair of blue jeans. "They believe that he took his blue jean pants off, we think he's probably wearing shorts and a red checkered shirt," Abbott said. He also left his bike behind.
Crime scene responded to gather evidence. Police say the thief could face felony charges.
