Police: Odem Man Attacked by His Intended Rape Victim

ODEM - An Odem couple beat a man deputies say broke into their home and tried to rape a wife inside.
According to San Patricio County Sheriff's Department, the homeowner, a woman in her 40s, noticed Jesse Mata Vera, Jr., 18, on her property on County Road 38A just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
She called 911. Then, she called her husband. Deputies say moments later the suspect broke into her home. So, she grabbed everything she could, including some vases and threw them at the suspect.
She also grabbed a paired of scissors and tried stabbing him several times. Her husband then arrived and fought with Vera. After struggling with Vera for 7 minutes, he ran out of the home and into some nearby brush. He was caught by San Patricio County deputies who were arriving at the scene.
Vera was taken into custody. He had several bumps and cuts to his head, neck and face. He remains in the San Patricio County Jail on charges of Burglary of a Habitation and Sexual Assault. According to investigators, the victim didn't suffer any serious injuries but she was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.
