CORPUS CHRISTI - Police are still trying to identify the man caught on tape knocking out another man in the downtown area.
In some disturbing surveillance it shows the victim 25-year old Erik Schwirtlich get bumped by a man in a black shirt and white hat. The two talked for a bit, and that's when the man in black swings at Erik, knocking him out and causing him to slam his head on the pavement. The attacker and a friend walked off.
Erik was later taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. He is still unable to walk on his own, or speak. And family members tell us he can only eat liquids. However they tell us Erik's condition is slowly improving and they are hopeful he will make a full recovery.
Erik's sister Lauren Schwirtlich says, "He recognized everybody, knew who everybody was. He could identify everyone even with the broke speech that he has right now. He knew exactly who everybody was which was a big deal for everybody."
Police say they have received several tips but nothing concrete yet.
The suspect is described as a hispanic man between the ages of 22 and 28. He is about 5"6 and somewhere between 150 and 180 pounds.
He was last seen wearing an oversized white baseball cap, black shirt, and had gauges in his ears.
If you know who he is, please call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS.
