Police Dogs Find Human Remains in Missing Woman's Backyard

CORPUS CHRISTI -- The Nueces County Medical Examiner's office says the body of a 77-year-old woman who was reported missing was brought into the office overnight.
Police say the woman's body was dismembered and found in her own backyard. Officers say it was Johanna Christy's son who lives in San Antonio who called police and told them he speaks to her on a daily basis and couldn't reach her Monday Afternoon.
Officers say he requested that Corpus Christi police stop by her home on the 3800 block of Bentwood where detectives say police dogs caught a scent and investigators say the remains of a female body were found in a shallow grave in the backyard.
Police say the female remains that were found were removed from her home around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning. Officers say they're investigating the scene as a homicide. Detectives scattered the area searching for clues on how Johanna was killed.
The search for her started late Monday afternoon after police received that call from her son in San Antonio. Police were on the scene within 10 minutes of getting the call.
When officers got to her home on Bentwood, her Toyota was parked in the driveway and her cane was in the front seat but no one answered the front door.
Neighbors say her grandson, David Christy, 27, took off when police showed up. Officers arrested him shortly after at Dolphin Landing Apartments around 8:30 Monday night. They say David struggled with officers and as a result is charged with assault on a public servant and evading arrest.
Police haven't confirmed if David will be questioned as a suspect in this case or Johanna's cause of death.
