PORTLAND - The Portland Police Chief is resigning.
The department has been in the national spotlight because of the Mollie Olgin, Kristene Chapa shooting investigation.
Gary Giles has been with the Portland Police Department for about 18 months. Even though he wasn't here when the shooting happened, he and his detectives poured countless hours into the investigation. Giles says now that an arrest has been made, he can walk away knowing nothing was left undone.
Giles was hired as the Chief of Police in Orem, Utah where he worked for 22 years prior to moving to Portland.
His last day is July 18th. The city manager is responsible for hiring his replacement.
